The Presto company was founded in 1905 as a manufacturer of industrial-size pressure canners. Then in 1939 it introduced a saucepan-style pressure cooker for the home, and gave it the "Presto." The company continued to expand into new markets and products. In 1958, Presto introduced the first automatic, submersible stainless steel coffee maker. This was a big break through as it allowed easier and better cleaning of the coffee unit.
Presto currently makes a 12 cup and a 6 cup model. Both are of high quality, and make a great pot of coffee.
About 3 months ago I bought a Presto 12 cup percolator and I would’nt give anything for it. The only thing is, every now and then the coffee grounds will percolate out of the top of the basket , I have tried evrything from less water to much less grounds to the point that the coffee was so weak that it was nothing but a waste. The wife and I are coffee holics, we drink coffee and esspresso all day long, we are both retired and dont have anything else to do. If you can give me some kind of suggetion to help with this problem I would appreciate it, I dont feel like buying another pot.
Thank you for your time,

try putting a filter on top of the coffee grines . that does work for me. the small round ones that fit this coofee pot.
meant to say coffee pot.. they are at walmart and kroger.
William, if you have the Presto 12-cup, you can use the 8-12 cup paper filters. I fold them in half and using a hand one-hole puncher and make a half-hole at the center of the filters for the tube to go through. It fits perfectly in the ground basket. As Maggie mentioned, it works well and I don’t get any grounds in my coffee neither.
I recently purchased Melitta unbleached filters from Amazon, about $15.50 (no shipping, no tax), 8 packages of 200/pk. That’s 1600 filters for less than a penny each! Here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/Melitta-Basket-Filters-Natural-200-Count/dp/B001M0508E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1309243560&sr=8-1
I forgot to mention, if you don’t have one of those single-hole hand puncher, you can fold the filter in 4 and using a pair of scissors, make a small snip at the center.
The reason grounds get in the coffee is because we’re supposed to use coffee grounds grinded in specific thickness for percolators. Since many of us don’t, using a paper filter will eliminate the ground from falling through the basket holes. Using a paper filter also eliminate the grounds from getting stuck in between the basket holes. Thus, it’d be easier to clean.
Oh, and here a some more info on the Presto electric percolators. All internal parts, stem, basket and lids, are dishwasher safe!
Once in a while, some part of the stainless stell may look like as if it’s discolored (purplish, graying dull look). Just use a sponge, dip in white distilled vinegar and wipe over it. It will bring back the stainless steel color as new.
I have a Presto Percolator Model PKO9B and need a basket cover. Is this available?
Hi,
I have an old Presto “super speed” coffee maker w/a glass top (sleek, mid-century style), which I really like, but would like to replace the aluminum basket and rod w/a stainless steel one. Does anyone know if this would be available?
Thanks.
Here’s a perc tip: Cover the top of the stem with a thimble while filling the basket. Then remove the thimble, and replace the spreader. You won’t get grounds down the stem! Our drip coffee maker broke down one Sunday morning. Panic! My 83 old mom remembered she had a Perculator stored away. We got it out and tried it—AWESOME coffee! We won’t go back now. We love the 50′s look too and the sound and smell is HEAVEN.
I still have my PRESTO COFFEE MAKER FROM MY FIRST WEDDING IN 1965.iT STILL WORKS, BUT IT NEEDS A NEW GLASS TOP THE OLD ONE’S HOOKS HAVE BROKEN OFF HARD TO KEEP ON WHILE PERKING. WHERE CAN I FIND ONE?
where can i get a basket cover for my presto 12 cup?
