Coffee Percolating

Percolator Parts

What are the parts inside the percolator?

Cover Knob

A cover knob on most stove top models is clear so as to watch the progress of the brewing process. Electric percolators may or may not have a clear knob.

Spreader Cover

Spreader Cover

The spreader cover works like the name implies. It's purpose is to spread evenly the flow of hot water over the coffee grounds below. The spreader cover fits over the basket.

Basket

Basket

Basket

The basket holds the coffee grounds and can be fitted with a specially designed percolator filter as well. The basket has a hole through which the pump stem comes up to through the spreader.

Pump Stem

Pump Stem

The pump stem is the what allows the heated water to flow up to the top of the spreader and down through the basket. It will have some rings at the base that sit inside a well at the base of the percolator.

The ring around the stem on my pot that supports the basket has fallen off of my pot. I have looked at several sites that have replacement parts and I do not see a part like it mentioned. I love the pot but it is useless without a support for the basket. Can somebody help. Thank you.

On percolator cords – most percolators take one of two standard 2-prong, 110 amp, 125v appliance cords. The fat one has 11/16″ between prongs and the skinny one . .doesn’t. I think the skinny (and more common) one has 1/2″ between prongs. If you have an Ace or other local hardware store, take the coffee pot in with you. SOMETIMES they will have replacement glass knobs too .

I need a basket spreader for a Chilton Ware 5 cup percolator.
The basket measures 3″ in diameter. Is there any site I might find it on? I tried ebay. thanks

Joan-
The spreader on your percolator is the same size as the spreader on my Presto 6-cup model. If you can’t find the specific Chilton Ware part you want, I bet you could use any modern, small-size replacement spreader.

Unfortunately, I have zero clue where you can find replacement parts. I’d say you had it right by looking on ebay. Maybe somebody else has more information. Good luck!

I have had good luck finding replacements parts for most any brand small appliance and the pricing & shipping charges are reasonable. hope this helps. Also, just type in the brand and part you need into a search box and see what comes up. I also do that a lot.

can a percolator work with out a spreader basket?

On January 21st, 2012 at 12:48 am, Ryan said:

Lisa: It can work without the spreader (basket lid), but you will probably need the basket. The spreader is missing on our percolator at work and it causes grounds to get in the coffee. We create a makeshift spreader using a normal coffee filter and cut a hole in it at the middle. To keep it in place, we use rubber bands which you can reuse. I am currently hunting for a replacement spreader and found your message.
